鬼頭道恭 Kito Dokyo (1840-1904)
Japanese painter in Nagoya during the late Edo and Meiji periods. Studied under Mori Koga. Specialized in Buddhist paintings. Painted decorative paintings and murals for temples. He decorated the interior of the Rokkakudo Hall of Minobu-san Kuon-ji Temple, the head temple of Nichiren Shoshu.

Buddha Coming out of the Mountains
It depicts the Buddha's departure from the deep mountains after his long and arduous ascetic practice in the snow-covered mountains in order to attain the teachings of the Hotoke, but he is unable to attain enlightenment even after long practice. The Buddha is emaciated and his toenails are fully grown.
