Carried by bold, resonant strokes, this hanging scroll by Miura Gikun, head priest of Zenko‑ji of the Tendai school, presents the auspicious phrase 鶴舞千年松—a blessing that envisions a crane in graceful flight above a thousand‑year‑old pine, symbols of longevity, resilience, and enduring prosperity. Gikun’s brush moves with a confident, rhythmic energy: the characters rise and fall like breath, their forms grounded yet spacious, allowing the meaning of the phrase to unfold with quiet authority. The composition balances strength and elegance, the ink settling into the paper with a natural cadence that reflects the calligrapher’s training and spiritual discipline. Signed “Gikun sho” with the seals “Shamon Gikun” and “Shozan”, the work carries the presence of a seasoned temple master whose writing embodies both ritual clarity and poetic warmth. Accompanied by its original box (Tomobako), the scroll has been carefully preserved. Displayed within an interior, it brings a dignified, uplifting atmosphere—its imagery of crane and ancient pine offering a timeless wish for longevity and steady, flourishing fortune.
