Composed in 1856 (Ansei 3, April) and signed Nichiyō, this Nichiren Buddhist Gohonzon presents a dense vertical arrangement of sacred inscriptions that embody the doctrinal structure and devotional authority of the Nichiren tradition. The bold central invocation anchors the mandala, while the surrounding script unfolds with rhythmic precision, revealing the practiced hand of a temple scribe working within a strict liturgical lineage. Variations in ink tone—from saturated blacks to softer, tapering strokes—capture the natural cadence of chanting and breath, giving the work a living spiritual presence.
