A dynamic hanging scroll (kakemono) by Yunoki Gyokuson, a Meiji–Taishō era painter known for his expressive brushwork and poetic natural scenes. This ink painting captures a lively moment: a fish leaps from the water toward a falling red plum petal, surrounded by rippling waves and aquatic plants. The composition blends movement and stillness, symbolizing aspiration, vitality, and seasonal transition. In Japanese art, the carp often represents perseverance and strength, while plum blossoms evoke renewal and early spring. The contrast between the energetic fish and the delicate petal adds emotional depth and visual rhythm. Rendered in refined ink tones with elegant calligraphy and seals, the scroll reflects Gyokuson’s mastery of traditional painting and literati aesthetics. It comes with a storage box, ensuring safe preservation and presentation. An evocative piece for collectors of Japanese ink painting, nature symbolism, and seasonal art.
