Created by Yonaha Choichi (b.1936), a leading Okinawan ceramic artist and Gold Prize recipient at the 5th Contemporary Okinawan Ceramics Exhibition, this shoulder‑carried sake bottle (dachibin) reflects the island’s distinctive pottery traditions. The vessel’s sculptural form—multiple openings, asymmetrical contours, and hand‑built presence—evokes the practical origins of the dachibin, once carried on the shoulder during celebrations and communal gatherings. Its textured surface and earthy tones highlight Yonaha’s sensitivity to clay and firing, giving the piece a natural, weathered character that feels rooted in Okinawa’s landscape. Measuring 30 × 18 × 18 cm and made of robust pottery, it balances functionality with expressive craftsmanship.
