Kutani ware is colored porcelain produced in the cities of Kanazawa, Komatsu, Kaga, and Nomi in southern Ishikawa Prefecture. Kutani ware is characterized by its vividly colored overglaze enamels called Gosai-te (commonly known as "Kutani Gosai").
This Meiji‑period Kutani vase, signed “Kutani Taniguchi‑sei”, showcases exceptionally fine miniature overglaze painting, a hallmark of high‑grade Kutani ware. The design features five white cranes standing among a lush bamboo grove and spring flowers, each feather and leaf rendered with remarkable precision in the vivid palette known as Kutani Gosai. The gold accents along the rim and the multicolored lotus‑petal band at the base enhance the sense of refinement, while the crackled glaze adds depth and warmth to the surface.
