三尾呉石 Mio Goseki (1885-1946)
Born in Tokyo, Mio Goseki was a Japanese painter renowned for his animal paintings, especially tigers, earning him the nickname “Goseki of the Tigers.” A pupil of Ōhashi Suiseki, he developed a realistic style based on the Shijō school and exhibited tiger paintings at major national exhibitions such as the Inten and Bunten. To pursue realism, he traveled extensively in Manchuria, Korea, India, and Arabia to study and sketch tigers. After the Great Kantō Earthquake of 1923, he settled in Urawa, Saitama, and became associated with the Urawa school of painters.
