Description

井出岳水 Ide Gakusui (1899-1978) Japanese art kakejiku kakemono wall hanging scroll / 四君子 Shikunshi - Orchid, Bamboo, Chrysanthemums, and Plum with Original Box (Tomobako) RF414

四君子 Shikunshi
A word that praises the four species of orchids, bamboo, chrysanthemums, and plums as the princes of plants. Originally, a gentleman in Chinese referred to a person with virtue, learning, and manners, and all literary figures aspired to become princes. The characteristics of four types of plants, orchids, bamboo, chrysanthemums, and plums, are similar to those of princes, so they have become typical materials for literati paintings.
