擔薪下翠岑 翠岑路不平 時憩長松下 靜聞春禽聲
Carrying firewood down the green peak,
The mountain path is rough and uneven.
Now and then, I rest beneath a tall pine,
And quietly listen to the songs of spring birds.

小川千甕 Ogawa Senyo (1882-1971)
Ogawa Senyo was a Japanese painter born in Kyoto, active from the Meiji through the Showa period. His real name was Ogawa Tasaburo. He initially trained as a Buddhist painter and later studied Western-style painting under Asai Chu. After traveling to Europe in 1913, he developed a distinctive artistic style combining Japanese and Western influences. He exhibited with the Nihon Bijutsuin (Japan Art Institute) and became particularly known for his expressive Nanga (literati painting), characterized by spontaneous brushwork, humor, and poetic sensitivity. He was also accomplished in calligraphy, poetry, and illustration. His works reflect a unique blend of traditional Japanese aesthetics and artistic freedom.
