A quiet, nocturnal beauty fills this scroll by Nisibe Bunjo (1925–1994), head priest of Dōjū‑in at Tōfuku‑ji, where cascading cherry blossoms glow softly beside a hanging lantern. The scene is paired with the famous waka poem:
“Yononaka ni taete sakura no nakariseba haru no kokoro ha nodoke karamashi”—a reflection on how the very presence of cherry blossoms stirs the heart, preventing spring from ever being entirely calm. Bunjo’s brushwork carries the poised clarity of Zen calligraphy, while the blossoms are rendered with a tenderness that suggests both beauty and transience. The work bears the signature “Bunjo” (文浄) and seals including “Shobogen” (正法眼) and “Sohaku” (宗伯), affirming its temple lineage.
