Horie Yusei 堀江有聲
堀江有聲 Horie Yusei (1802-1873)
Born in Unnan, Shimane. His childhood name was Zensaburo Toyonobu, and in his youth he was surnamed Unpou and Seihaku. From an early age he loved to paint and studied under Yamamoto Tanen in Kyoto. In his twenties he travelled around the country and painted many works at Mori family in Hagi, and in 1852 he became an official painter under Matsudaira Naoaki, the ninth lord of the Hirose domain.
