Ishi Rinkyo 石井林響
石井林響 Ishi Rinkyo (1884-1930)
A Japanese-style painter active from the late Meiji period to the early Shōwa period. Until the middle of his career, he was known as Ishii Tenpū. RinKyō initially believed Western-style painting, with its emphasis on chiaroscuro, was superior. However, he was profoundly moved by the works of Yokoyama Taikan, Hishida Shunsō, and Shimomura Kanzan, leading him to resolve to pursue Japanese painting. Through Shimomura Kanzan's mediation, he became a disciple of Hashimoto Gahō. He actively exhibited at shows such as the Futabakai, formed by Gahō's pupils, and began to make a name for himself.
