Matsuda Kyotei 松田杏亭

松田杏亭 Matsuda Kyotei (1887-1965)
A Japanese-style painter from Aichi Prefecture; his real name was Jotaro. He initially studied under Oda Kyosai and later moved to Tokyo to study under Ikegami Shuho. In his later years, he became known as "Koi no Kyotei" (Kyotei of the Carp) and earned high acclaim for his bird-and-flower and animal paintings—particularly those depicting carp and waterfowl—rendered with exceptional realism.
