二代歌川国輝 Utagawa Kuniteru II (1830-1874)
A pupil of Utagawa Toyokuni III, his real name was Yamada Kunijirō. Early in his career, he used art names such as Utagawa Kunitsuna II, Ichiransai, Ichiyūsai, and Ichiyōsai. Around 1865, he succeeded to the name Kuniteru II. He produced numerous *Yokohama-e* (prints depicting Yokohama) and *kaika-e* (prints illustrating Western-style modernization), gaining popularity with *nishiki-e* (multicolor woodblock prints) that featured subjects such as Tokyo's new landscapes and railways.
