In Zen, it expresses 和 wa (harmony or peace). It has no beginning and end, you may judge as you like, it can be sometimes seen as moon. Enso is a circle that is hand drawn in one or two uninhibited brushstrokes to express a moment when the mind is free to let the body create.
花来即写花 月出則映月 Hana Kitarutoki Hana wo Utsushi Tsuki Izurutoki Tsuki wo Utsusu
It means accepting things as they are and living in accordance with their natural course, just as one might simply enjoy watching a flower bloom before one’s eyes, or as the moon reflects its true form when it rises.

He is the 23rd abbot of Sogenji Temple. After 20 years of training under Master Yamada Mumon at Shofuku Monastery in Kobe, he became the 23rd abbot of Sogenji Temple in Enzan, Okayama City in 1982.
