山本琹谷 Yamamoto Kinkoku (1811-1873)
Born in Shimane Prefecture. He studied painting under 多胡逸斎 Tago Issai (1802–1857), a senior retainer of the Tsuwano Domain, and later studied under 渡辺崋山 Watanabe Kazan (1793–1841), 高久靄崖 Takaku Aigai (1796–1843) and 椿椿山 Tsubaki Chinzan (1801–1854). He left behind a large body of work, including figure paintings, flower-and-bird paintings and landscape paintings, and, as the official court painter of the Tsuwano Domain, was also involved in producing paintings for the domain lord.
