Dressed in white and standing on a lotus pedestal, holding a willow branch in one hand and a jar of pure water in the other, Kannon Bodhisattva is known as 慈母観音 Jibo Kannon or 悲母観音 Hibokannon. with seal 'Shiun' 紫雲
Emerging from soft, luminous brushwork, this scroll depicts Jibō Kannon, the compassionate mother‑like form of Kannon Bodhisattva, rendered with a gentle clarity that reflects the devotional spirit of the Kannongyō. Standing upon clouds and holding a willow branch and a jar of pure water, she embodies both aspects of mercy: the giving of happiness (jibo) and the removal of suffering (hibo). The surrounding inscriptions—phrases such as Guissai Kudoku (“possessing all merits”), Jigenji Shujō (“watching over all beings with compassionate eyes”), and Fukujukai Muryō (“blessings as limitless as the sea”)—reinforce the protective and benevolent presence of the deity. The seal “Shiun” (紫雲) affirms the artist’s hand, and the scroll is accompanied by its box. When displayed, the piece brings a quiet sense of reassurance into the room, the serene figure of Kannon creating an atmosphere that feels calmer, more centered, and gently supported—much like the protective gaze she is believed to offer.
