Painter of the Tosa School in the mid-to late-Edo period. The second son of Tosa Mitsuyoshi, he became an Eodkoro azukari in 1754. with signature 'Edokoro no azukari sho goi no ge Tosa no kami Fujiwara Mitusada' 画所預正五位下 土佐守藤原光貞 and seal 'Mitusada no in' 光貞之印

This elegant hanging scroll by Tosa Mitsusada (1738–1806) presents a serene and auspicious scene of Mount Hōrai, featuring a pine tree, a pair of cranes, and a tortoise—all traditional symbols of longevity, harmony, and spiritual transcendence in East Asian art. The composition is rendered with refined brushwork and balanced detail, reflecting the classical style of the Tosa School, known for its courtly elegance and narrative clarity. Mitsusada, the second son of Tosa Mitsuyoshi, held the prestigious title of Edokoro Azukari (画所預)—head painter of the Imperial Court’s painting bureau—and contributed to the decoration of the Seiryōden palace interior. The scroll bears his formal signature “Edokoro no azukari sho goi no ge Tosa no kami Fujiwara Mitsusada” (画所預正五位下 土佐守藤原光貞) and seal “Mitsusada no in” (光貞之印), affirming its authenticity and official lineage. Accompanied by a preservation box, this work embodies the dignified beauty and symbolic richness of Edo-period court painting.
