He was a physician and literati painter from Nagoya whose artistic practice blended the disciplined observational skills of his medical profession with the contemplative spirit of traditional Japanese painting. Although art was his secondary pursuit, his works display an exceptional sensitivity to nature, particularly in his detailed bird‑and‑flower compositions, which often carry a quiet, almost botanical precision. A refined hanging scroll depicting Mount Fuji rising above a tranquil sea of clouds, accompanied by wind-shaped pine trees rendered with quiet restraint. The composition balances expansive negative space with carefully observed natural forms, allowing the softly contoured peak of Fuji to emerge with dignified calm. Executed on silk with a delicate hand, the work reflects the literati sensibility of Kumazawa Koho, whose paintings often fuse scholarly elegance with close observation of nature.
