岡本秋暉 Okamoto Shuki (1807-1862)
Painter of the late Edo period. His name is Ryusen. He studied under Onishi Keisai and later Watanabe Kazan. He served in the Odawara clan. He excelled at realistic flower-and-bird paintings and established a decorative yet dignified and profound style. His peacock paintings were highly evaluated and he was called the "Peacock artist Shuki".

This elegant hanging scroll by Okamoto Shuki (1807–1862), a master of flower-and-bird painting in the late Edo period, depicts two graceful herons standing among lotus leaves in a tranquil waterside scene, rendered with refined brushwork and subtle coloration that reflect Shuki’s decorative yet dignified style; trained under Onishi Keisai and Watanabe Kazan and serving the Odawara clan, Shuki —was celebrated for his realistic depictions of nature, especially peacocks, earning him the title “Peacock artist Shuki”; this work bears his signature and seal “Shuki” (秋暉) and comes housed in a protective box, offering a serene and timeless vision of classical Japanese aesthetics.
